President Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not believe that the talks between the Ukrainian and US teams, which took place in Florida last weekend, have reached a dead end.

Zelenskyy agreed with the view that there was little communication from both Ukraine and the United States following the latest round of talks.

When asked whether this situation means that the negotiations have reached a dead end, Zelenskyy responded during an online press briefing: "I do not see a dead end for now. We are working on documents. It is quite a trivial phrase: the last mile is the most difficult".

He added that contact with US representatives is continuing on a constant basis.

"I have already spoken several times with [Rustem] Umierov [Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine – ed.]. And he is in constant contact with [Steve] Witkoff and [Jared] Kushner… so there is a great deal of energy in communication, but what is needed is a result," he said.

On 17 January, the Ukrainian delegation consisting of Rustem Umierov, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President's Office, and Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, was in the United States for meetings with the US team.

It was reported that the purpose of the Ukrainian team's visit to Florida was to finalise agreements on security guarantees and Ukraine's economic prosperity with US partners.

At the time, Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian delegation in the United States was to provide factual information on Russian strikes.
