Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Tuesday 27 January.

Zelenskyy briefed Støre on the recent trilateral talks in the United Arab Emirates between delegations from Ukraine, the United States and Russia.

The president noted that the Ukrainian team is working on preparations for the next stages of this format, but Russia's actions are creating obstacles.

"Our team is working in the most constructive and substantive manner possible. Unfortunately, Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy sector and infrastructure continue, which, of course, undermines diplomatic efforts," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

The sides also focused on long-term cooperation. Zelenskyy thanked Oslo for its energy support packages and noted Norway's readiness to contribute to post-war economic development.

"It is important that Norway is ready to join the preparation of steps for recovery and post-war economic development of Ukraine. We will continue to expand joint opportunities in building modern defence capabilities," the Ukrainian leader wrote.

On 23-24 January 2026, the first in a long time round of trilateral meetings involving representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Following the meetings, the sides agreed to continue consultations.

On 26 January, Zelenskyy said preparations are underway for another meeting of the negotiating teams from Ukraine, the United States and Russia, which is planned for Sunday 1 February.
