Germany to provide Ukraine with 33 mobile combined heat and power plants

Heiko Thoms, Germany's ambassador to Ukraine, has announced that Germany will soon deliver 33 mobile combined heat and power plants to Ukraine.

"What is happening here every night are war crimes. This is being done solely to terrorise the civilian population. You need support now, and you will get it. I believe we are already the largest partner in the energy sector. We provide not only generators or energy storage systems, but sometimes also vehicles for repair work in the energy sector. Now we are also providing 33 mobile power plants – combined heat and power plants," Thoms said in an interview with Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne.

One such mobile plant can supply heat and electricity to tens of thousands of people, Thoms said.

"So these 33 units are capable of providing electricity to millions in Ukraine. The challenge is connecting them – just like with generators – but we will work together to do it as quickly as possible," he emphasised.

The ambassador added that Germany has also already sent nine IRIS-T air defence systems to Ukraine, and he expects further systems to be delivered soon.

On 27 January, a shipment of 76 emergency generators from the EU's strategic reserves arrived in Kyiv to help restore the electricity supply in Ukrainian towns and villages.

Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the capital had received 130 generators of various capacities from Poland.
