US President Donald Trump has said he will state that he is "absolutely" considering withdrawing from NATO during his address to the nation on 1 April.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that on the evening of 1 April at 21:00 Eastern Time (04:00 Kyiv time), Trump would deliver an address to the nation with "important updates on Iran".

Trump himself told Reuters that during the speech, he would express his discontent with the Alliance.

"I'll be discussing my disgust with NATO," Trump said.

When asked whether he was considering withdrawing from the defence bloc, he replied: "Oh, absolutely without question. Wouldn't you do that if you were me?"

Previously, in an interview with The Telegraph, Trump said he was seriously considering the possibility of the United States leaving NATO, describing the Alliance as a "paper tiger".

On the same day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that after the end of the conflict with Iran, the United States would review the need for NATO membership.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, commenting on Trump's remarks, said that NATO is "the single most effective alliance".

Meanwhile, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the Alliance cannot exist without the United States, but added that this applies to both sides.
