Zelenskyy says "strong step" coming on Ukraine receiving Gripen fighter jets
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on a visit to Sweden, has announced that a "strong step" will be taken regarding Ukraine's acquisition of Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets.
"I am in Sweden today on a working visit. We are preparing a major defence package for Ukraine and a strong step regarding Gripen fighter jets, which will definitely make our combat aviation more effective," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Zelenskyy added that the visit will include a meeting with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and representatives of the Swedish defence industry will also take part in delegation-level talks.
In October 2025, Sweden's prime minister announced the signing of a letter of intent with Ukraine on the possible sale of 100-150 Gripen E fighter jets.
In this regard, Zelenskyy said the first Gripens from Sweden could arrive in 2026.
