Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, is on his way to the United States for a meeting with negotiators representing US President Donald Trump.

Dmytro Lytvyn, adviser to the Ukrainian president, confirmed a report by Reuters stating that Umierov was already en route.

He added that more information will be provided shortly.

Earlier, unofficial reports suggested that Umierov would travel to Miami this week for talks with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Anonymous sources, including a White House representative, declined to provide details of the meeting's agenda.

Negotiations on the Russo-Ukrainian war have virtually ground to a halt since the US and Israel began their military campaign against Iran. An anticipated visit to Kyiv by Trump's negotiators "after Orthodox Easter" never took place.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated at the end of April that Ukraine is ready for another round of peace talks with Russia in a trilateral format.
