Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said a new chapter is opening in relations with Hungary.

In his post, Sybiha expressed gratitude to the Cypriot presidency in the Council of the European Union "for its leadership in advancing Ukraine's EU accession process".

"I also appreciate Hungary's constructive engagement. We are opening a new chapter in Ukraine-Hungary relations – one built on mutual respect, trust and our shared European future," Sybiha wrote on X.

Sybiha also thanked all EU member states, the European Commission and EU institutions "for their unwavering support".

Sybiha's comments came amid reports that Ukraine and Hungary had reached agreements on ethnic minority issues.

After that, the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the European Union announced the start of the formal process for opening the first EU accession negotiating cluster for Ukraine.

European Pravda reported that the opening of this first negotiating cluster (Fundamentals) for Ukraine and Moldova is planned for 15 June.
