US Secretary of State Makes an Unannounced Trip to Kyiv to Unveil $2 Billion for Ukraine and Its Neighbours

Thursday, 8 September 2022

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv as a sign of support for Ukraine.

In meetings with senior Ukrainian officials, Blinken said the Biden administration would provide $2 billion in long-term external military financing to Ukraine and eighteen of its neighbors, including NATO members and regional security partners, who are "potentially at risk of future Russian aggression," reports AP.

The amount will come in addition to a $675 million worth of military support for Ukraine alone that Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin announced earlier on Thursday at a conference in Ramstein. The new package includes more GMLRS precision rockets for HIMARS, 105mm howitzers, artillery ammunition, HARM anti-radar missiles, Humvees, anti-tank weapons, small arms and more.
