President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree on the establishment of the honourary title "Rescuer City" to the capital of Lithuania.

The decree was published on the website of the Office of the President on Tuesday.

"For humanism, mercy, and solidarity with the Ukrainian people in defending the ideals of freedom, peace, and democracy displayed by foreign city residents. At the same time, it represents support of the Ukrainian state in protecting its independence and sovereignty during the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the strong support of Ukraine in protecting its independence and sovereignty, I decide to award the city the honourary title of "Rescuer City" Vilnius (Republic of Lithuania)," the text of the decree reads.

Vilnius became the fourth foreign city to be awarded this status following the Polish cities of Przemyśl and Rzeszów, as well as Prague.
