Ukraine's Foreign Minister: Time of Arms Taboo Is Over, There Will Be More Good News

Friday, 6 January 2023

The announcement by France, Germany and the USA regarding the provision of new arms to Ukraine, specifically Western-style armoured vehicles, has demonstrated that the time of taboo regarding the supply of arms from the country’s allies is over.

Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has stressed that this year Ukraine will receive arms from its allies which it failed to receive in 2022.

"The first week of 2023 already proves it. Wheeled tanks and armoured vehicles from France, Bradley and Marder fighting vehicles from the USA and Germany, an additional German Patriot air defence battery, ammunition, and much more. And wait for an announcement of the new American package," the minister listed the latest arms promises for Ukraine from its allies on his Facebook page.

Kuleba has noted that President Zelenskyy is conducting a "real diplomatic marathon" this week, with negotiations every day with three or four leaders, and some decisions on the supply of arms are made right during the talks.

"Thanks to this hard work and heroism of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and all the Defence Forces of Ukraine, the president's diplomatic team has managed to convince the allies that the time of the arms taboo has passed. We are entering a decisive phase. There can be only one goal: the victory of Ukraine. This is the only way to ensure a lasting and just peace, as well as security, in Europe.

Here is a cascade of good news about arms, and there will be more to come. And the gnashing of teeth in the Kremlin and the crying on Russian TV will become stronger after each such news," Kuleba wrote.

On 5 January, after a conversation between US and German leaders Joe Biden and Olaf Scholz, it became known that the United States intends to provide Ukraine with Bradley fighting vehicles and Germany is going to supply Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

In addition, Germany, following the United States, will supply Ukraine with the Patriot air defence battery.

The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will provide Ukraine with AMX-10 RC armoured personnel carriers, which are also classified as wheeled tanks.
