Ukrainian Foreign Minister Responds to Supporters of Negotiations with Russia: There Were 200 Rounds of Talks since 2014

Thursday, 9 November 2023

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba commented on the calls of Western officials for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

Kuleba recalled on Twitter that from 2014, when the Russian Federation occupied Crimea and invaded Donbas, to 2022, Ukraine held about 200 rounds of negotiations with the Russian Federation.

During this time, the minister added that 20 ceasefire agreements were reached, all of which Russia quickly violated.

"None of the 200 rounds of talks or the 20 ceasefires have prevented Putin from launching a brutal all-out invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.

Those who argue that Ukraine should negotiate with Russia now are either uninformed or misled, or they side with Russia and want Putin to take a pause before an even larger aggression," Kuleba stressed.

Earlier, NBC, citing sources, reported that the US and European officials started closed-door negotiations with Kyiv on possible peace talks with the Kremlin to end the war.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis called the speculation by Western officials about the possibility of such talks dangerous.
