Security Guarantees: Montenegro Joins G7 Declaration on Ukraine

The presidents of Ukraine and Montenegro, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Jakov Milatović, had a bilateral meeting in Athens on Tuesday.

Zelenskyy thanked Montenegro for its humanitarian, military, and political support, as well as "for joining the G7 Declaration on 'security guarantees' for Ukraine."

They also discussed the "peace formula" and preparations for the Global Peace Summit.

In turn, Milatović condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and expressed Montenegro's support for Kyiv.

"I have been invited to visit Kyiv, where we will sign an agreement of friendship and cooperation between our countries," added the Montenegrin president.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries agreed on a framework document on security guarantees for Ukraine. The leaders did not agree on the specific parameters of the security guarantees but on their framework, and specific bilateral agreements will be signed later.

Earlier on Tuesday, Luxembourg had also joined the G7 declaration. Additionally, in August, Ukraine began negotiations on security guarantees with the United States and the United Kingdom.
