The Kremlin has responded cautiously to statements from US officials about potential deliveries of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine and strikes deep inside Russian territory.

As reported by Russian news agency Interfax, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked at a press conference on Monday to comment on remarks by US Vice President JD Vance and US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg concerning possible Tomahawk supplies to Ukraine and strikes inside Russia.

"We have indeed heard these statements and we are analysing them carefully," he said.

Peskov has said that Russian military experts are closely monitoring the matter.

"The question remains as follows: who can launch these missiles, even if they appear on the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime [as the Russian propaganda machine calls the Ukrainian government – ed.] – can only Ukrainians launch them or must it still be US military personnel? Who gives targeting orders on these missiles – the American side or the Ukrainians themselves? And so on. That is why we need a detailed assessment. We have certainly heard the statements; they are very serious and we are studying them," Peskov added.

When asked how Moscow would respond in the event of Tomahawk deliveries to Kyiv, Peskov has noted that it is necessary first to understand the potential threats and clarify who would be involved in the process.

US Vice President JD Vance has confirmed on Sunday 28 September that the administration of Donald Trump is discussing the potential provision of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

WSJ has reported earlier that US President Donald Trump said during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week in New York that he was ready to lift restrictions on Kyiv's use of long-range American weapons.
