Ukraine completes legislation screening process for EU accession negotiations
Ukraine and the European Union have completed the screening of Ukrainian legislation as part of EU accession negotiations.
On Monday, Marta Kos arrived in Ukraine for a three-day visit "to reaffirm the EU's support for Ukraine's European path and to mark the completion of the screening process for EU accession".
On Tuesday 30 September, she stated that the day "marks an important step on Ukraine's path to the EU".
"In the most difficult circumstances, Ukraine has completed the screening process of its entire legislation at record speed, laying the foundations for its European future," Kos said on X.
Kos also emphasised the need to "maintain reform momentum".
On 22 September, Moldova also announced the completion of its EU integration screening process.
Hungary is currently blocking further progress in Ukraine's accession talks.
European Council President António Costa is leading efforts to allow the opening of negotiation clusters with a qualified majority of EU states rather than requiring unanimity. This could potentially bypass Hungary's veto.
The European Commission has indicated that opening the clusters without Orbán's consent "could be considered", but the final decision rests with the EU member states.
