Polish law enforcement officers have detained two local men who tore down the Ukrainian flag from the building of Ukraine's honorary consulate in the city of Przemyśl in Poland on Sunday 26 October.

As reported by Ukrinform, Karolina Kowalik, a police spokesperson in Przemyśl, said that the detainees are local residents aged 21 and 23.

She said the case materials had been transferred to the Przemyśl District Prosecutor's Office.

Last week, during a match between Shakhtar FC and Legia Warszawa in the Polish city of Kraków, Polish fans displayed a banner reading "We remember Volhynia". The Ukrainian ambassador called it a provocation. [The Volyn (Volhynia) tragedy was a series of events that led to the ethnic cleansing of the Polish and Ukrainian populations in 1943 during World War II. It was part of a long-standing rivalry between Ukrainians and Poles in what is now Ukraine's west. Poland considers the Volyn tragedy a genocide of Poles – ed.]

In September, a cross was cut down from a Ukrainian church in Poland, and one suspect was later detained.
