Tusk says that extradition of Ukrainian in Nord Stream case is not in Poland's interest

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said it is not in Poland's interest to extradite Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Z., who was detained at Germany's request over the Nord Stream sabotage case.

As reported by Polsat News, commenting on Volodymyr Z.'s detention in Poland, Tusk said that his fate will be decided by the court, but the Polish government has a clear position on the matter.

"My role is not to investigate why a Ukrainian citizen came to Poland again, despite knowing there was a European arrest warrant issued against him, but our position has not changed.

It is certainly not in Poland's interest to charge or hand over this citizen to another state. The decision will be made by the court," Tusk said.

A Ukrainian citizen wanted under a European arrest warrant issued by a German court for alleged involvement in sabotaging the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines was detained in the Polish city of Pruszków on 30 September.

It is suggested that the suspect is Volodymyr Zhuravlov, for whom Germany issued an arrest warrant in June 2024. Berlin has also sent Poland a European arrest warrant in his case.

The 49-year-old Ukrainian denied allegations of involvement in the attack.

Tomasz Siemoniak, Polish Minister, Member of the Council of Ministers and Coordinator of Special Services, stated that there is no reason to rush to extradite Volodymyr Z. to Germany.
