Norway's support for Ukraine projected to reach €19 billion by end of 2026
Ellen Reitan, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, has said that Norway's total financial support for Ukraine will have exceeded €19.4 billion by the end of 2026.
Norway's overall package for military and civilian support will surpass €19.4 billion by the close of 2026.
"A peaceful Europe and Ukraine's future as a sovereign nation continues to depend on military and civilian support to defend against Russia's aggression. It is of great importance that a coalition of countries are coming together to provide new financing to help meet Ukraine's military needs," Reitan said.
Reitan said that Norway is making a substantial contribution to the collective effort to support Ukraine.
"Including the amount proposed in next year's budget, the Norwegian Government has allocated more than NOK 227 billion [US$22,5 billion] in military and civilian support to Ukraine," she added.
As to Norway's possible participation in an EU plan to provide Ukraine with "reparations loans" based on frozen Russian assets, including guarantees, Reitan said that Norway is closely following developments and continues its dialogue with the EU.
Norway's Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg has said earlier in an interview that Norway may support the EU plan to use frozen Russian assets for Ukraine but is not ready to guarantee the entire loan on its own.
Earlier, Norway's Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik announced that the country will allocate US$7 billion in 2026 to support Ukraine's defence sector.
Norway also announced the allocation of US$150 million for Ukraine's energy sector.
Norway pledged to deliver a bridge to Sumy Oblast, which will soon be assembled in the Mykolaiv hromada in the Sumy district, as well as medical equipment worth €2 million. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]
