Zelenskyy instructs his negotiators to finalise document on security guarantees from US
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed his negotiating team to finalise a document on security guarantees from the United States and submit it for consideration by the presidents of both countries.
Zelenskyy said that he and his team had discussed the schedule of meetings with the US side, including a possible signing of the security guarantees document.
He also instructed Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka and Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev to ensure "expert review of all economic aspects" of future agreements between Ukraine, the United States and Europe.
The Ukrainian leader reiterated that he expects "clear feedback" from Russia on ending the war, otherwise pressure on Moscow should be increased.
"We understand that the American side is in contact with Russia regarding the political framework for ending the war. We have defined our vision, and there must be clear feedback from Russia – whether they are willing to end the war on real terms. If there is no such willingness, pressure on the aggressor must continue to increase," Zelenskyy wrote on X.
On 11 January, US President Donald Trump said that he is willing to assume commitments regarding US participation in future security guarantees for Ukraine because he believes that Russia will not attempt another invasion.
Following talks in Paris with the US side, Zelenskyy said that the document on security guarantees is "effectively ready" to be agreed with Trump.
On 7 January, the Ukrainian delegation held meetings with the US team in Paris.
On 6 January, a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place in Paris with Zelenskyy attending in person. After the meeting, the president said that responses had been received on many aspects of European guarantees, including the deployment of a deterrent contingent.
