Poland urgently sends generators and heaters to Ukraine
Poland will deliver 379 electricity generators and 18 heaters from the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves to Ukraine in the coming days, following a decision by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
As reported by PAP, citing Poland's Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the equipment is being provided, in particular, using EU funds. The first shipments will set off for Ukrainian cities as early as Friday from warehouses in Leśmierz in Łódź Voivodeship.
Poland's interior ministry said the humanitarian situation in Ukraine has become critical as a result of systematic Russian attacks targeting energy and heating infrastructure.
Almost 60% of Kyiv currently remains without access to electricity and thousands of households are operating without heating. In conditions of severe frost, this poses a direct threat to the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of people.
The ministry said that Poland has started providing immediate material assistance that will be delivered to the hardest-hit regions.
In parallel, within European mechanisms, Poland is coordinating the transfer of a further 447 electricity generators.
Support has also been offered by the city of Warsaw, which has provided 90 generators. The State Fire Service will handle transportation of the equipment donated by Warsaw.
On Monday, 10 lorries will depart from Kamienica Królewska near Gdańsk, and on Tuesday another five vehicles will set off from the same location. The last group of vehicles planned for next week will depart on Wednesday from Lisowice near Wrocław.
Poland's acting chargé d'affaires in Ukraine previously announced that his country is providing 400 generators for Kyiv and surrounding populated areas.
Meanwhile, the Lithuanian government has reported an urgent transfer to Ukraine of 90 generators worth more than €2 million.
Azerbaijan has sent Ukraine five transformers, generators and other equipment for energy needs.
