Kallas to outline concessions Europe should demand from Russia in potential Ukraine peace deal

Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said she will initiate talks with EU member states on a list of concessions Europe should demand from Russia as part of a potential agreement to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

As reported by Reuters, speaking to journalists in Brussels, Kallas said she will propose in the coming days that EU countries discuss a list of concessions that should be demanded from Russia as part of a potential deal to end the war.

Asked what could be included on the list, she mentioned the liberation of all Ukrainian children abducted by Russia and limits on the size of Russia's armed forces.

"Everybody around the table, including the Russians and the Americans, needs to understand that you need Europeans to agree. And for that, we also have conditions. And we should put the conditions not on Ukrainians, who have been already pressured a lot, but on the Russians.

If we don't stand up for anything, there's no point for us to be around the table. It's important that we discuss what kind of concessions we need to see from the Russian side in order to have a sustainable peace," she said.

Kallas said earlier that it is a problem that Ukraine is under enormous pressure to make painful concessions and that this risks shifting focus away from the fact that Russia is responsible for the war.

Reports also indicate that the EU wants to set up two military training centres in Ukraine as part of security guarantees.
