Winner of Norwegian maths competition donates his entire prize to Ukraine
The winner of Norway's national mathematics competition has donated the full amount of his prize money to support Ukraine.
Skomantas Urbonas, who won NOK 15,000 (approximately €1,330) in the national mathematics competition, decided to donate the entire sum to support Ukraine's defence forces and the Ukrainian healthcare system.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry quoted Skomantas on X as saying: "I've always heard that evil can only prevail when good people do nothing. That's why I felt that this achievement would have greater meaning if it could contribute to Ukraine's victory."
The Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to all the benefactors who support Ukraine. Skomantas' gift was accepted by Ukraine's ambassador to Norway, Oleksii Havrysh, who thanked him for his principled stance and contribution to the fight against Russian aggression.
At the height of the crisis in Ukraine's energy system in the winter of 2025-26, a Czech volunteer initiative called "A Gift for Putin" raised over €5 million for generators for Kyiv in five days. Earlier, in December, an anonymous benefactor donated €4 million to the initiative, which was distributed among a number of projects.
In Lithuania, the Radarom! campaign in support of Ukraine raised €4 million for robotic systems to mark the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion.
