European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier said in Brussels on 27 April that the Ukrainian government has submitted the necessary documents to the European Commission to receive €2.7 billion under the Ukraine Facility after completing a number of reforms that made it eligible for the funding.

"On this 2.7 billion, I can confirm that indeed Ukraine has submitted its request for payment. We are now processing the request for payment," Mercier said.

Mercier added that he could not yet provide a specific assessment of the request or a timeline for when Ukraine might receive the funds.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos noted earlier that Ukraine has carried out a series of reforms in recent weeks, enabling the EU to allocate €2.7 billion to Ukraine.

It was also reported that the EU plans to provide Ukraine with €16.7 billion in budget support this year from a €90 billion loan, half of which will be delivered in three tranches through macro-financial assistance.
