Norway backs Ukraine's ceasefire proposal: No need to wait
Norway has said it supports Ukraine's counterproposal after Russia unilaterally declared a ceasefire 8-9 May. [9 May is Victory Day in Russia. It is a Russian holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945 – ed.]
Oslo said it backs Kyiv's call for an immediate ceasefire with Russia starting from the night of 5-6 May, in response to Moscow's unilateral move.
"There is nothing to wait for. Russia can at any point end this war by ceasing to attack Ukraine and its civilians," the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on X.

Germany's foreign minister has also urged Russia to accept Ukraine's ceasefire proposal.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on the morning of 6 May that Russia has resumed airstrikes from the very first hours of the day.
On 9 May, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is expected to visit Moscow and meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin, although he has said he will not attend the Victory Day military parade.
