Polish foreign minister says Ukraine asked to meet Nawrocki

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has said that Ukraine itself initiated a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki because, in his view, Kyiv realised it has "gone too far".

Sikorski said this could signal a shift in Kyiv's position.

"The Ukrainian side asked for a meeting with the Polish president. This means that perhaps they have realised they went too far," he said on RMF FM, a Polish radio station.

During the NATO summit in Ankara, the presidents of Ukraine and Poland met twice: during the formal leaders' dinner and the following day on the sidelines of the summit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the meeting as "an important and necessary conversation".

Nawrocki reported details of his meeting with Zelenskyy in Ankara saying they "were unable to resolve the historical issues".
