Ukraine's foreign minister and his Moldovan counterpart discuss Black Sea situation and EU accession

Ukraine's acting foreign minister Andrii Sybiha has spoken by phone with his Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popșoi, congratulating him on his reappointment.

"We discussed our bilateral agenda, our next EU accession steps, and emphasised the importance of opening all negotiating clusters without delay," Sybiha said.

The two sides also discussed the security situation in the Black Sea amid Russia's continued attacks on civilian vessels and Ukraine's port infrastructure.

Sybiha pointed out that the impact of these attacks reaches far beyond Ukraine, with consequences for both regional and global food security. The two foreign ministers agreed to continue working with partners to strengthen the resilience of alternative logistics routes and grain export corridors.

"We also agreed to maintain our close coordination and I invited Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi to visit Ukraine in the near future," he added.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu earlier signed a decree appointing a Cabinet of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan; the new government was sworn in on 22 July.
