Poland reveals what President Nawrocki wished Ukraine on Independence Day

It has emerged that Polish President Karol Nawrocki sent his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy a congratulatory letter marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine's independence, wishing Ukraine victory in the war.

Marcin Przydacz, Head of the Polish President's International Policy Bureau, said  in an interview with RMF24 that Nawrocki had sent Zelenskyy a letter marking Ukraine's Independence Day in which he pointed to "points of tension" in relations between the two countries.

"In this letter, the president essentially wished Ukraine victory in the war against Russia, while pointing out that there are a number of points of tension that we would like to gradually reduce... The most important thing is that Poland values good-neighbourly relations. They must be based on certain fundamental principles, one of which is historical truth," Przydacz said.

Przydacz also said that dialogue between the Ukrainian and Polish presidential offices is continuing. However, there are currently no plans for Karol Nawrocki to visit the Ukrainian capital.

Commenting on relations with Kyiv, Przydacz also referred to the law on the establishment of Ukraine's National Pantheon and criticised the initiative.

"I believe it will not help improve relations not only with Poland, but also with other countries and Western Europe as a whole. If I were in the Ukrainians' position, I would not insult the historical memory of victims or glorify criminals. If Ukraine does this, it must expect these actions to have negative consequences," he added.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously congratulated Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of its independence.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has previously said that he believes support for Kyiv in its fight against Russian aggression should continue, as Ukraine's success is in Poland's strategic interests.
