Polish PM: Those who say Ukraine is responsible for the war are giving a valuable gift to Putin

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned against attempts to shift the responsibility for the war onto Ukraine.

Opening the Warsaw Security Forum, Tusk expressed regret that trivial truths need to be repeated these days, as voices absolving Russia of part of the responsibility for the war grow increasingly stronger.

Tusk stated that in Poland and across the West as a whole, they had to have no illusions about what was happening in Ukraine, emphasising that that was a confrontation between good and evil.

"No one and nothing will remove Russia's 100% responsibility for the war. Anyone who suggests that Ukraine is responsible for the war is giving a valuable gift to the aggressor – Putin," Tusk said.

The prime minister recalled that during the years of the Second World War, Nazi propaganda similarly tried to convince the world that Poland was to blame for the aggression against it.

Tusk noted that these days we hear the same thing from Moscow, and unfortunately, more and more often from some of EU capitals, urging that the relativisation of responsibility for the war not be permitted.

On 9 October, US President Donald Trump said he had spoken to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on supplying Russian diesel fuel to the US and global markets.

The agreement between Trump and Putin sparked outrage in Ukraine and European capitals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly criticised Trump's actions, describing the easing of sanctions as an "absolutely terrible" move.
