US President Donald Trump has said Ukraine could strike "plenty of targets" in Russia other than oil refineries and called the Ukrainian campaign against Russian refineries a disgrace.

Trump once again claimed that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries are driving up global oil prices.

"Now, if you tell me that Zelenskyy is again shooting at refineries, all he's doing is making the world oil price higher... Well, I think that's a disgrace. There's plenty of other targets. ... There are a lot of targets that you can hit. But when you shoot at diesel refineries where you make, you know, diesel oil and we need that and the world needs that, then he's [Zelenskyy – ed.] not doing a good service for the world," Trump said in an interview with Newsmax.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on 11 October, Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine.

Since then, there has been no information confirmed by the Ukrainian authorities regarding strikes on Russian oil refineries. Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian energy facilities.

On 14 October, Zelenskyy said Russia had shown unprecedented contempt for the US by carrying out a ballistic missile strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities overnight on 13-14 October.

In an interview with the FT on 15 October, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine had suspended strikes on Russian energy facilities for three days to comply with US wishes, whilst Moscow had continued to strike Ukrainian energy infrastructure. In this regard, Zelenskyy said the ban on striking Russian oil refineries has now been lifted.
