The White House has announced that US First Lady Melania Trump will personally arrange a meeting between representatives of Russia and Ukraine in the United States.

In a statement, the White House said that Melania Trump "will personally bring representatives of Russia and Ukraine together at the White House".

"This event represents an extraordinary moment in American history," the statement reads.

It was also noted that the US first lady will make a statement regarding Oleshky on Thursday 5 November at the White House.

However, the statement did not specify who Melania Trump has invited to the meeting or when it might take place.

On 23 October, the White House announced that Melania Trump had secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, where a humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding.

She later hinted that she might make a personal trip to Ukraine amid reports that she had helped to broker the ceasefire in Oleshky.

Melania Trump announced that nearly 800 people had been evacuated in the course of a humanitarian mission carried out during the ceasefire in Oleshky, Kherson Oblast.
