G7 to hold separate meeting on Ukraine with Ukrainian foreign minister in attendance

Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries will hold a separate meeting dedicated to supporting Ukraine in Paris on 10 November, with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in attendance.

The meeting will take place as part of a two-day G7 gathering in Paris on 9-10 November. Its main topics will be air defence, financial assistance and energy support for Ukraine.

A special conference on 9 November will also be held on repairing the protective arch of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was damaged by a Russian attack in 2025.

"The final meeting, at the end of the first half of the day on 10 November, will be dedicated to supporting Ukraine, with the Ukrainian foreign minister in attendance," a French Foreign Ministry official told European Pravda.

The source added that the meeting will take place against the backdrop of intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and a stabilisation of the situation on the front line.

Paris also believes that Russia is attempting to change its tactics by focusing its strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities and critical infrastructure.

"[We are seeing] Russia's desire to change its tactics by deliberately attacking energy facilities, critical infrastructure and Ukrainian cities, presumably in an attempt to achieve – which they are seeking in any case – what they call a blackout, a serious problem of energy collapse in Ukraine, by the end of the year, or at any rate during the winter," the source said.

In this regard, France stresses that the G7 will play an important role in supporting Ukraine in the areas of air defence, finance and energy.

"We have several areas of focus here, but one of the most prominent is obviously Ukraine, and in particular the repairs of the protective structure at Chornobyl, damaged by a Russian strike in 2025," the source said.

The G7 foreign ministers' meeting will take place in Paris on 9-10 November. Ukraine, Brazil, South Korea, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have been invited to some of its sessions.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said it is €500 million short for emergency repairs to the sarcophagus at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

In October, G7 countries allocated €260 million for the Chornobyl sarcophagus, amounting to more than half of the sum the bank believes is needed for the repairs. The conference in Paris on 9 November, organised by France, Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, aims to provide impetus for securing additional funding.
