Polish PM: railway between Warsaw and Lublin damaged by explosion, this was sabotage

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk has said that the services consider Sunday's incident on the Polish railway between Warsaw and Lublin to have been deliberate sabotage.

"Unfortunately, the worst assumptions have been confirmed. On the Warsaw-Lublin route (the village of Mika), an act of sabotage has occurred. The explosion of an explosive device destroyed the railway track. Services and the prosecutor's office are working at the site. On the same route, closer to Lublin, damage has also been detected," Tusk wrote on X.

Tusk added that this is an "unprecedented act of sabotage" against the security of Poland and its citizens and that the services will make every effort to detain those responsible.

It is worth noting that the line where the explosion occurred leads to the border with Ukraine.

"Actions by the services and the prosecutor's office are continuing in the village of Mika. Unfortunately, there is no doubt that we are dealing with an act of sabotage. Another section of this strategic railway line where track damage occurred is also being examined," the Minister of Internal Affairs Marcin Kierwiński stated.

On Sunday morning the driver of a train on the Dęblin-Warsaw route reported "malfunctions in the railway infrastructure". An investigation was launched afterwards, and Tusk said that sabotage could not be ruled out.

This railway line is used by trains running between the Ukrainian border and Warsaw.

In October eight people suspected of preparing sabotage were detained in Poland.
