Zelenskyy confirms Ukraine's chief negotiator will meet US team in Geneva
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council and head of Ukraine's negotiating delegation, will hold talks with US negotiators in Geneva on Thursday 26 February.
Zelenskyy said in online comments to journalists on the morning of Wednesday 25 February that he had just spoken with Umierov.
"He will have a meeting tomorrow with American negotiators, with [Steve] Witkoff and [Jared] Kushner," the president said.
Zelenskyy added that Umierov will also meet with the US secretary of the treasury to discuss a recovery package for Ukraine.
"The second issue is preparations for a trilateral meeting that will also involve Russia and, in our view, will take place at the beginning of March," Zelenskyy added.
The president also said he has instructed Umierov to discuss the details of the next prisoner exchange.
Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy, announced on 24 February that he will meet Umierov in Geneva.
Witkoff has also said trilateral talks between the United States, Ukraine and Russia could take place within the next ten days.
