European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Kyiv at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"Yesterday, President von der Leyen spoke to President Zelenskyy, as they regularly do…President von der Leyen accepted an invitation to be in Ukraine to mark the four years of the beginning of the Russians' full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It will be a renewed and reiterated sign of the solidarity of the European Union with Ukraine and of our determination and unity in the face of Russia's continued aggression," Paula Pinho, chief spokesperson for the European Commission, said.

Pinho did not specify when exactly von der Leyen will travel to Ukraine.

"We are discussing the details and will share them with you when we have more information about this visit," she added.

European Pravda previously reported that a delegation of European commissioners, including EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, will arrive in Kyiv in February ahead of the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Later this week, the European Commission is expected to unveil a proposal on the contents of the EU's 20th Russia sanctions package. The plan is to adopt the package on 24 February to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Politico reported that von der Leyen convened her team of European commissioners for a meeting scheduled for 4 February in an effort to ease tensions and improve their work.
