Czechia summons Russian ambassador after Moscow issues threats over joint drone production with Ukraine
Czechia has summoned the Russian ambassador after Moscow made veiled threats to several European countries regarding joint drone production with Ukraine.
The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Petr Macinka decided on 16 April to summon Russia's ambassador in Prague to request explanations.
The ministry said the decision followed a statement by Russia's Defence Ministry and subsequent comments by Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and deputy head of the Russian Security Council, adding that the statements related to several Czech companies which were identified as potential targets for Russian attacks.
Russia's Defence Ministry recently published a list of addresses in several European countries where it claimed joint drone production facilities with Ukraine are located, hinting at possible retaliatory measures.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said the Netherlands would not be deterred by Russian threats.
Czech authorities are also investigating a case of arson at a weapons facility where drones for Ukraine are manufactured. A group protesting cooperation with Israel has claimed responsibility, but it is suspected to be a cover.
