Moldovan President Sandu calls Russian drones flying over Moldova on Independence Day "intimidation"

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said Russian UAVs flying through the country's airspace on the night of 26-27 August amounted to "intimidation".

"Hours before Moldova marks 35 years of independence, our airspace was repeatedly violated by Russian drones. I strongly condemn this intimidation," Sandu wrote on Х.

As reported earlier, five drones entered Moldovan airspace during a Russian aerial attack on Ukraine on the night of 26-27 August.

Sandu reiterated that Moldova stands "tall, independent and free, firmly on its path to join the EU".

Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, believes frequent drone incidents involving violations of the country's airspace are linked to the approaching elections to Russia's State Duma (lower house of Russia's parliament).

Sandu said she believes that the frequent violations of her country's airspace by Russian drones are linked to "insufficient support for Ukraine in interception".
