Ukraine requests urgent UN Security Council meeting after large-scale Russian attack
Ukraine has initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council following another large-scale Russian attack on the night of 5-6 July.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the Democratic Republic of Congo, which currently holds the presidency of the Council, and the permanent members of the UN Security Council to support Ukraine's request for a meeting following Russia's second large-scale attack in the past few days.
"Every Russian missile launched against Ukraine carries a message far beyond our borders. It seeks to convince the world that violence can replace law, that fear is stronger than solidarity, and that brutality comes without consequence," he wrote on X.
Sybiha called for unity among the international community in deterring Russian aggression.
"Delayed or weak responses cannot stop the terror. Only strong, principled, and timely action will," he added.
Twelve people have been killed and almost 60 have been injured, including two children, in a Russian attack on the city of Kyiv on the night of 5-6 July.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for strong decisions on protecting Ukraine's skies at the NATO summit after another Russian attack.
Earlier, Andrii Sybiha said that Ukraine's main message to participants in the NATO summit is a call to protect Ukrainian children from Russian ballistic missiles.
