European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will present the new Readiness 2030 roadmap to the College of European Commissioners and journalists on Wednesday 19 March.

Polish Minister for European Affairs Adam Szłapka said on 18 March in Brussels that the European Commission and Poland, which holds the EU presidency in the first half of 2025, are ready to open negotiating clusters with Ukraine, in particular the first cluster, Fundamentals.

Hungary will conduct a public consultation on support for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union before the beginning of summer, an initiative launched by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The European Union is reported to be working on a new package of sanctions against Russia, the 17th in a series, with sources revealing what it may include.

A source familiar with the matter has told European Pravda that EU ambassadors agreed on Friday 13 March to extend a number of EU sanctions against Russia after reaching an agreement with Hungary.

The European Parliament has condemned any attempts to pressure Ukraine’s leadership into capitulation before Russia solely for the sake of announcing a so-called peace agreement.

Brussels is informally preparing for a scenario in which Hungary may block the extension of EU sanctions against Russia, leading to the expiry of the sanctions packages on 16 March.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, will visit London on Sunday, 2 March, to attend an informal meeting organised by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss Ukraine and security in Europe.

The European Union and Ukraine may launch a series of projects on critical raw materials as early as March 2025, with the EU particularly interested in a project for extracting Ukrainian graphite.
