The International Defence Legion of Ukraine has confirmed information about the death of an employee of the humanitarian organisation Presidium Network and citizen of Great Britain, Paul Urey.

"We are very saddened by the news of the death of Mr Urey. We want to clarify that he was not in the International Legion. He did not fight in Ukraine. He was an employee of a humanitarian organisation, as confirmed by the Presidium Network, the non-profit organisation where Mr Urey worked," Interfax-Ukraine  refers to the press service of the International Defence Legion.

The International Legion noted that since Urey was not a legionnaire, they could not provide additional information.

Earlier, the separatists of the so-called "DPR" reported that Paul Urey had died on 10 July due to "diagnosed illnesses and stress", assuring that the Briton was being provided with medical care.

A British government spokesman said the Foreign Office was "urgently investigating" Urey's death, adding that "we are obviously thinking of his family and friends."

Two other Britons and a Moroccan who were captured in Ukraine were sentenced to death in occupied Donetsk, allegedly for mercenary activities.

The British Foreign Office has condemned Russia's exploitation of prisoners of war for political purposes.
