Russia Summons U.S. Ambassador Over Washington's Support for Ukraine

Tuesday, 21 February 2023

Russia's foreign ministry has summoned U.S. ambassador Lynne Tracy, expressing complaints over growing support for Ukraine and the investigation of sabotage on the Nord Streams.

"On February 21, the heads of the American diplomatic mission expressed a démarche in connection with the ever-widening involvement of the United States in hostilities on the side of the Kyiv regime," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

They add that "pumping Ukraine with weapons" and sharing information about targets "proves the falsehood of the American side's claims that the United States is not a party to the conflict" and that Russia considers the weapons provided to Ukraine and the service personnel, "including U.S. citizens," its legitimate purposes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation states that to de-escalate relations with Russia, the United States should take steps that include "withdrawal of US-NATO troops and equipment and the cessation of hostile anti-Russian activities" (perhaps they mean the troops that strengthened NATO's eastern flank after Russia's attacked Ukraine ).

Russia also demands explanations regarding the explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipeline and "not to interfere with the objective investigation." They note that other bilateral issues were also discussed.

On February 21, the President of the Russian Federation addressed the Federal Assembly, announcing the suspension of its participation in the New START treaty (Ukr) with the United States that limits the two sides' strategic nuclear arsenal.

He also blamed and reproached the West for the war in Ukraine and said that it "wants to make Russians suffer."
