Friday, 19 May 2023

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, that the Western allies are steadfast in their resolve to continue backing Ukraine.

"Russia needs to know that we and other countries are steadfast in our resolve to support Ukraine, not just in the here and now with the resources it needs to protect itself, but for the long term as well," the British prime minister said in an interview with Sky News.

Rishi Sunak has given a "straightforward" message for Vladimir Putin at the G7 summit: "We're not going away."

Earlier, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the G7 leaders will discuss increasing military support for Ukraine, including F-16 fighter jets, in Hiroshima on Friday.

In turn, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius urged to continue supporting Ukraine (Ukr) with weapons in order to preserve its statehood.
