Trump responds to Putin's boast about Burevestnik missile

Monday, 27 October 2025 —

Speaking to journalists on Air Force One during his trip to Asia, US President Donald Trump commented on remarks that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin made about the test of the Burevestnik missile, which Putin said has an "unlimited range".

According to CNN, in response to Putin's boasting about the missile, Trump said that the United States has nuclear submarines positioned near Russia.

"They know we have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shore," he said.

Trump said Putin should be thinking about ending the war he has unleashed against Ukraine, not about testing missiles.

"He ought to get the war ended, a war that should have taken one week is now in its fourth year, that's what he ought to do instead of testing missiles," Trump added.

Asked by journalists whether additional sanctions would be imposed against Russia, Trump replied: "You'll find out."

On Sunday 26 October, Putin held a meeting with Valery Gerasimov, Chief of Russia's General Staff, to discuss the test of the Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile.

Putin said the test "has once again confirmed the reliability of Russia's nuclear shield" and described the missile as "a unique device that no one else in the world has".

The Kremlin ruler's comments about the missile test came amid Trump's decision to impose sanctions on Russian energy giants Rosneft and Lukoil.

In addition, Trump recently decided not to go ahead with a meeting with Putin in Budapest.
