Bloomberg: Trump team wants to reach peace deal between Russia and Ukraine by 4 July

Tuesday, 24 February 2026 —

Bloomberg has reported, citing NATO allies, that the United States is allegedly seeking to end the Russo-Ukrainian war by 4 July, when the US marks Independence Day.

As reported by Bloomberg, without disclosing details about its sources, the agency noted that the US would like to reach a peace agreement on the war in Ukraine by 4 July.

However, NATO allies have expressed scepticism about such a timeframe.

"Allies say the US is pushing for a deal before Trump hosts the 250th anniversary celebrations of American independence on July 4. But there's no indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to reach an agreement that doesn't grant his central demands, according to senior European and NATO officials." Even some US officials in private conversations acknowledge that they see no signs that Putin is ready to step back from his maximalist positions, Bloomberg's sources say.

Trump returned to office as president in January 2025, promising to quickly end Russia's full-scale war. However, more than a year of US diplomatic efforts has been failing due to Russian demands regarding Donbas and the issue of control over Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
