Tuesday, 21 June 2022

Ukrainians are very optimistic about the European perspectives of the country.

69% of respondents believe that Ukraine will join the EU in 5 years, 40% think it will happen in 1-2 years, and 29%, up to five years, report the sociological group "Rating" that conducted the survey.

Another 14% believe that Ukraine will become a member of the EU in the next 5 to 10 years, and 3% in 10 to 20 years. Only 7% do not believe that Ukraine will integrate into the European Union.

87% of the respondents would support Ukraine's accession to the European Union in the event of a referendum (4% would be against it, and 8% would not vote). The support for EU accession is unanimous among the representatives of all the macro-regions and age groups.

The poll was conducted on June 18-19 among 1,200 adult Ukrainians using CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews) across the country, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas and areas where Ukrainian mobile communications were missing. The error of representativeness of the study is not more than 2.8%.

As previously reported, on June 17, the European Commission published its opinion on Ukraine's, Moldova's, and Georgia's applications to become members of the EU. It granted candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.

Meanwhile, Ukraine should fulfill seven requirements not to lose its new status and move to the next procedure stage. Find out more in the article Ukraine Be Deprived of EU Candidacy without Reforms: Details of the Commission Opinion.

The final decision will be made at the summit of EU leaders on June 23-24.
