Prisoner Exchange, Grain, and Planes: Media Named Topics of the Meeting between Erdoğan and Zelensky

Thursday, 18 August 2022

On Thursday morning, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan left for Ukraine on his first official visit since Russia's full-scale invasion.

According to the NTV TV channel, Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday will discuss options to improve the functionality of the grain corridor and resolve the war with diplomacy.

Among other topics are Turkey's mediation in a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, returning to Turkey of two Turkish Air Force A440M jets that had been in Ukraine before the war and still remain there.

All aspects of Turkish-Ukrainian relations will also be assessed at the two leaders' meeting.

During Erdoğan's visit, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is in Ukraine. That is why a tripartite summit with the participation of Erdoğan, Zelensky, and Guterres is scheduled.

President Erdoğan last visited Ukraine on February 3, 2022, shortly before the Russian invasion. Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights after Russia began military action in the country, so Erdoğan and his delegation will reach Lviv by land from Poland.
