No Sign It Was Intentional Attack on Poland - Duda

Wednesday, 16 November 2022

Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the missiles fall yesterday night was very likely caused by the Ukrainian Air Defence and Warsaw does not consider the incident an attack on the country.

Duda said this at a briefing on Wednesday, reports TVN24.

"It was not a missile aimed at Poland. We have no evidence that the missile was launched by Russia," said President Andrzej Duda, referring to the missile that killed two people.

He added that an S-300 type missile fell on the territory of Poland in the Lubelskie province bordering Ukraine and that it was probably "a Ukrainian air defense missile" that repelled Russian missile attacks yesterday.

According to Duda, a preliminary examination of the scene shows that it was the result of a falling missile, perhaps in conjunction with the explosion of the fuel that remained.

The President of Poland emphasised that Russia is to blame for this tragedy.

The collected evidence, as well as American data, show that it was an accident, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki added.

He noted that launching Article 4 may not be necessary, "but this tool is at our disposal."

According to Reuters, US President Joe Biden told G7 and NATO partners that the missile blast in eastern Poland was caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile.

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Eduard Heger, said that the representatives of the NATO member states at the meeting on Wednesday would most likely discuss the request to strengthen air defense on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
