Ukrainian President and Belgian Prime Minister Sign Declaration on Supporting Ukraine Joining NATO

Saturday, 26 November 2022

The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Belgium signed a declaration of support for Ukraine’s membership in both the EU and NATO at a meeting in Kyiv on Saturday.

This is reported by the press service of the Ukrainian President.

"I thank Belgium and the Prime Minister for the joint declaration signed today. This document testifies Belgium's support for our movement towards full membership in the European Union and NATO. We will definitely get this important result for us," the President of Ukraine declared.

On 31 October, Zelenskyy signed the same document with Petr Fiala, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. At the time, this was the first document that Ukraine signed in order to accelerate its Euro-Atlantic integration.

On 30 September, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine had applied for NATO membership under an accelerated procedure.

The head of Ukraine's mission to the North Atlantic Alliance, Natalia Halibarenko, explained that Kyiv submitting an application for accelerated accession into NATO means that the discussion about it "has become formalised".
