Russia to Not Use Nuclear Weapons - Dutch Prime Minister

Monday, 20 February 2023

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is convinced that Russia will not dare to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

"I think Russia understands that if they use nuclear weapons, the United States will strike back, and this response will be much more powerful. The United States is so much stronger than Russia that it simply cannot take this risk," Rutte said in an interview with "European Pravda" (Ukr).

Rutte has added that he wants Ukraine to win the war. However, it should decide itself what tactics to choose - where to start, what to do exactly.

"We cannot decide this for Ukraine. You must win. We want to help you. That is why we are already helping by providing significant military assistance. But it is not for me to decide what to do or not to do with Crimea. This is a matter for the Ukrainian government. For example, I would be outraged if something like this happened in the Netherlands and someone else said whether I should return Friesland (province in the north of the Netherlands. - EP)," he said.

Previously, Ukraine officially requested the Netherlands for F-16 fighter jets. Rutte stated that he did not rule out sending any military assistance to Ukraine.
