Zelenskyy Calls for Sanctions against Russian Nuclear and Rocket Industries on EU Summit

Thursday, 9 February 2023

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, called on the countries of the European Union to implement sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry, as well as manufacturers of missiles and drones.

"Russia has created a threat of a nuclear catastrophe in Europe, and the Russian nuclear industry is still unfettered from global sanctions. There are yet steps that remain to be taken. For instance, implementation of sanctions against the entire missile and drone industry of Russia, the corresponding part of the IT sector of the terrorist state. After all, Russian missile terror will be a threat until the source of such a threat is wiped out," Zelenskyy said during his speech at the EU Summit in Brussels

He reminded that thanks to the sanctions introduced previously, Russian energy carriers will never again be a weapon against Europe.

"Finally, everyone has seen how Russia treats the Europeans and the energy markets. Thank you for the sanctions packages that have already come into force. But have they sufficiently limited Russia's aggressive potential? This path must be fully covered so that they have neither the ability nor the desire to expend efforts to destabilise any country in Europe," the president added.

Before the summit, Zelenskyy made a speech in the European Parliament, stressing that Ukraine will be a member of the EU and is doing everything necessary for this even in wartime conditions.
