Ukraine to Get Aircraft after Successful Military Operations – Zelenskyy

Wednesday, 3 May 2023

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he is confident that Western allies will provide aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to Zelenskyy, allies provide certain weapons after successful actions by Ukrainian troops on the battlefield.

"Why do I believe that we will have jets? We will conduct offensive actions, and after that, we will receive aircraft," said the Ukrainian president during a press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki.

Niinisto, in turn, explained that Finland would only be able to hand over its Hornet fighters to Ukraine once they replaced them (Ukr).

On Wednesday, May 3, Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid an unannounced visit to Finland for the Nordic-Ukrainian summit of leaders and a series of bilateral meetings.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Western allies would eventually provide Ukraine with Western F-16 fighters.

Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that Western partners have not yet provided Ukraine with modern aircraft due to their own pragmatism (Ukr).
