White House Said Whether They Plan to Send More Patriots to Ukraine

Tuesday, 6 June 2023

Air defence systems for Ukraine remain a priority for the United States.

John Kirby, White House NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications, answered a question about the possible additional Patriot systems to Ukraine, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously requested.

"We have been prioritising air defence now for many, many months," Kirby said.

He noted that there are not many Patriot systems "either in our inventory or the inventory of nations that have purchased them."

"We know air defence is a priority. And we know how well the Patriots have been performing inside Ukraine, which is, again, why we provided some additional interceptor missiles last week," Kirby added.

On June 1st, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy advocated for the creation of a "Patriot coalition" at the summit of the European Political Community in Moldova. This initiative was supported by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
